Issue/Introduction

When copying actions between datapools using DataMaker or the TDM Portal, execution-related parameters are not preserved. Specifically:

  • The Wait for Completion checkbox is unchecked in the copied action.
  • The Execution Timeout (sec) (displayed as Time to Wait(s) in DataMaker) is reset or missing.
  • Changes made to these fields in the Portal do not persist unless the Update button is explicitly clicked.

Environment

Product: CA Test Data Manager (TDM)

Release: 4.11 and earlier

Cause

This behavior is a product limitation. Engineering has confirmed that DataMaker is not designed to handle or process the "execution timeout" parameters for actions that were originally created or managed within the TDM Portal. Because these execution parameters are handled separately from the core action definition, they are not included in the standard copy operation between datapools.

Resolution

This behavior is Working as Designed.

Workaround

To ensure the copied action executes with the correct parameters, you must manually restore the settings in the TDM Portal:

  1. Open the TDM Portal and navigate to the datapool containing the copied action.
  2. Edit the action and manually check Wait for Completion.
  3. Enter the desired Execution Timeout (sec).
  4. Important: You must click the Update button before leaving the page to ensure the settings are saved to the repository.
