Issue/Introduction

Attempting to move files from one repository folder to another repository folder in the same project, using the "Move Path" function results in an error E0302066d: The target path is not in the same repository.

Environment

Release:  14.5 and higher

Cause

The "Move Path" function does not support transferring files and artifacts across repositories.  This is due to the intent of "Move Path" as a refactoring tool for folder organization, but within same repository.

Resolution

A workaround that you could try in order to move content between separate repositories:

  1. Check Out: Retrieve the files from the source repository to a local workspace.

  2. Check In: Add the files to the destination repository.

  3. Delete/Remove: Logically delete the original files in the source repository using the Remove Item or Remove Path process to maintain the audit trail Moving files to a new folder.

Note: Using the check-out/check-in method will result in the loss of version history in the new repository, as the files will be treated as new items.  If the history connection is important, please consider putting the Archive folder in the same repository.
