Issue/Introduction

During the deployment of a VI Workload Domain in VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x, commissioned hosts do not appear in the selection list. The SDDC Manager UI displays the following error:

"No suitable hosts available to create a VI workload domain."

Environment

VCF 9.0

SDDC 9.0

Cause

In VCF 9.x, the SDDC Manager Host Discovery service performs strict validation of the storage backing. The issue occurs if the datastore name was incorrectly configured or if the required datastore is not properly mounted/accessible on the hosts intended for the workload domain.

Commissioned host not visible

Resolution

Ensure that all hosts intended for the VI Workload Domain meet the storage prerequisites.

  1. Verify Datastore Configuration: Ensure the datastore name matches the original configured storage and naming conventions required for the VI workload domain.
  2. Storage Accessibility: The required datastore must be accessible and mounted on each host prior to initiating the workload domain creation wizard.
  3. Manual Preparation (if applicable): For certain storage types like Fiber Channel (VMFS_FC), you may need to manually create a VMFS-6 datastore on the intended LUN via vCenter or the ESXi host directly before the hosts become visible in SDDC Manager.
