Impact of Updating Tanzu Elastic Application Runtime License Key

Issue/Introduction

You need to update or rotate the license key for the Tanzu Elastic Application Runtime (formerly TAS/TPCF) and want to understand the potential impact and platform downtime requirements.

 

Resolution

 

1. Update License: Input the new license key into the Tanzu Operations Manager UI within the Elastic Application Runtime tile.

2. Selective Deploy: To minimize time, you can use the "Resource Config" or selective "Apply Changes" to target the BOSH Director and Elastic Application Runtime tile specifically.

3. Process: UAA instances will be restarted to take the new licence key. 

   • In a highly available (HA) environment with multiple UAA instances, BOSH performs a rolling update, meaning at least one instance remains available to handle requests.

   • Note: If you only have one UAA instance, authentication will be unavailable during the duration of the restart.

Important Note: While "Apply Changes" is running, avoid performing other administrative tasks.
