Issue/Introduction

  • Creating a new replication in VMware Cloud Director Availability fails with an unexpected error.
  • In the /opt/vmware/h4/cloud/log/cloud.log file on the Replication Manager appliance, an error similar to the following can be seen:

Unexpected VMware Cloud Director error. [ UI-########-####-####-####-############-####-##-##-########-####-####-####-############ ] The operation failed because no suitable resource was found. Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7.3.x
VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7.4

Cause

When creating a new replication to a cloud site, the destination VMware Cloud Director Availability (VCDA) solicits the underlying VMware Cloud Director (VCD) implementation for a storage location on the selected storage policy. If VCD is unable to determine a location with sufficient space without violating the container threshold settings, the placement engine will return an error indicating the failure and the replication will fail to be created.

Resolution

Adjust the underlying VCD so that at least one storage container on the selected storage policy has sufficient space to accommodate the replication files without violating the configured red and yellow thresholds. For more information, please refer to the following article:
