After migrating (vMotion) an NSX Edge VM from one ESXi host to another, the destination ESXi host experiences abnormally high resource utilization after a period of time.
VMware NSX
VMware vSphere ESX 8.x
This behavior is triggered by a configuration mismatch between the source and destination ESXi hosts regarding the advanced setting ReversePathFwdCheckPromisc, specifically when utilizing Promiscuous Mode. The high utilization occurs when the Edge VM is migrated from an ESXi host where ReversePathFwdCheckPromisc is set to 1 (enabled) to a destination ESXi host where it is set to 0 (disabled).
To resolve this issue, it is recommended to transition the Edge VM bridging configuration away from using Promiscuous Mode and instead utilize the MAC Learning feature.
Disable promiscuous mode on the vSphere Distributed Switch (vDS) port group where the Edge VM is connected.
Configure the Edge VM network settings to use MAC learning.
For detailed, step-by-step instructions on configuring MAC Learning for an Edge VM, refer to Option 2a in the official Broadcom documentation: Configure an Edge VM for Bridging
