Issue/Introduction

When the Sysout capture file reaches 80% utilization or higher a message similar to the following is issued:

*TRACWARN – DATA AREA OF CAPTURE FILE IS nn% FULL

If maintenance is not done on a regular basis, the Sysout capture file will eventually become full.

Environment

Component: JOBTRC  R11.0

Cause

The TRACWARN – DATA AREA OF CAPTURE FILE IS nn% FULL  message can occur as a result of maintenance for the capture file not  being performed on a regular basis or a need to enlarge the sysout capture file.

Increased Jobtrac scheduling activity can also increase the frequency of this message.

Resolution

  1. Periodically run the sysout archival function by executing the 0SYSARCH or 0ARCHIVE task.    Old Sysouts will be archived based on the Ret Days/Vers value specified in the capture options.   This option specifies the number of days or number of versions of the sysout you want to keep online. The number of days or versions, whichever is greater will be kept

  1. If 0SYSARCH or 0ARCHIVE do run on a regular basis and the TRACWARN messages still occurs, this is an indication that the capture file needs to be enlarged.  Perform the following to enlarge the sysout capture file

-- Back up capture file

-- Allocate a new file

-- Format the file

-- Copy your data into the new file.

-- Rename old Capture DSN to .OLD

-- Rename new Capture to your old Capture DSN.

-- Restart Jobtrac

For sample JCL see SAMPJCL member CAPMOVE.

<note> Renames will need to be done after running CAPMOVE.
