Question:
Should I continue to use the optional JES2 Exit 6 feature of CA Workload Automation Restart Option for z/OS Schedulers?
Answer:
The JES2 Exit 6 benefits jobs being restarted by removing dataset ENQs in the steps that will not execute. It was written before CICS had the ability to unallocate files so a restart could execute and not be held up by datasets allocated to CICS. Use of the exit does add overhead when CA 11 has to modify IBM control blocks to dummy out datasets in the steps that do not execute. Unless there is a specific need for the JES2 Exit 6 you can run without it.
As always, please contact CA Technologies support for CA Workload Restart Option for z/OS Schedulers if you have further questions.
