VMware Tanzu Application Catalog

Issue/Introduction

A Tanzu Application Catalog customer with a Bitnami Secure Images (BSI) entitlement is unable to see "unlimited" Debian 12 base images in their VMware Managed Registry or "My Catalog" by default. The customer needs to know if these images are pre-populated or if they must be manually added, and whether they impact their artifact quota.

Environment

  • Product: VMware Tanzu Application Catalog
  • Entitlement: TNZ-BSI (Bitnami Secure Images)
  • Base Image: Debian 12

Cause

Images in the Tanzu Application Catalog, including the unlimited Debian 12 base images, are not automatically synchronized to a customer's private registry. Each image is built on a hardened ephemeral pipeline specifically for each customer only after it has been explicitly selected and added to their enterprise catalog.

Resolution

To access the unlimited Debian 12 images, follow these steps:

  1. Access the Portal: Log in to the Tanzu Application Catalog dashboard.
  2. Browse the Library: Navigate to the Bitnami Library (the larger public catalog of available images).
  3. Search for Debian 12: Use the search bar to locate the Debian 12 base images or applications built on Debian 12.
  4. Add to Catalog: Click the "Add to Catalog" button for the desired Debian 12 images. This action moves them into your enterprise catalog ("My Catalog").
  5. Build and Sync: Once added, the Bitnami pipeline will begin building the hardened version of the image for your tenant. After the build is complete, the images will appear in your VMware Managed Registry.

Note on Quotas: For customers with the appropriate BSI entitlement, selecting Debian 12 base images will not count against the allocated Artifact quota.
