Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to the Management Pack for VMware Live Site Recovery version 9.0.3 in VCF Operations 9.0.2, you may observe the following issues:

  • The adapter instance status remains Green (Collecting).
  • No objects (such as Protected Groups or Recovery Plans) or metrics are received or visible in the user interface.
  • All Site Recovery adapter instances stop collecting data simultaneously.
  • The storage/log/vcops/log/collector.log file on the VCF Operations node contains the following error: ERROR [com.vmware.srm.vrops.SrmAdapter.onCollect] - Failed to collect data com.vmware.vim.vmomi.client.exception.SslException: com.vmware.vim.vmomi.core.exception.CertificateValidationException: Server certificate chain is not trusted...

Environment

VMware Live Site Recovery Management Pack 9.0.3

VCF Operations 9.0.2

vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the vCenter Server is on version 8.x and its Root or Intermediate CA certificate is missing from the VCF Operations trusted certificate store. Although the adapter status appears green, the secure handshake required for data retrieval fails because the certificate chain is not trusted by the Management Pack's collection worker.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, import the vCenter Server certificate into the VCF Operations trusted store:

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations UI with administrative privileges.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Control Panel > Trusted Certificates.
  3. Check the list to verify if the certificate (or its CA) for the affected vCenter Server is present.
  4. If the certificate is missing, expired, or has changed:
    • Download the certificate from the vCenter and save as a PEM file.
    • Click "Import"
  5. Restart the Adapter Instance:
    • Navigate to the VMware Live Site Recovery (SRM) adapter in the VCF Operations UI (Administration > Integrations)
    • Select the affected instance and click Stop.
    • Once the status shows as stopped, click Start to re-initiate collection.

Additional Information

Download and install vCenter Server root certificates to avoid web browser certificate warnings
