Issue/Introduction

  • From the vCenter UI, the following error is seen:

    Error transferring file <3rd party vendor VM>.vmdk to ds:///vmfs/volumes/vsan:522#####-####-####-####-############//contentlib-26b#####-####-####-####-############/887#####-####-####-####-############/<3rd party vendor VM>-disk1_266#####-####-####-####-############.vmdk?serverId=131#####-####-####-####-############. 

    Reason: Unexpected error while uploading to datastore (ds:///vmfs/volumes/vsan:522#####-####-####-####-############//contentlib-26b#####-####-####-####-############/887#####-####-####-####-############/<3rd party vendor VM>-disk1_266#####-####-####-####-############.vmdk?serverId=131#####-####-####-####-############): null

  • The issue is seen with only one OVF template.
  • Uploading ISOs and other OVF templates are successful.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

This issue happens when the template is corrupted.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, 

  • If the OVF was extracted from a VM, re-extract the OVF and try the deployment. 
  • If the OVF was downloaded from online, redownload it and see if there is a checksum with the download to validate against the file after it finishes downloading.
