Issue/Introduction

New Tier‑1 (T1) Gateway configurations created in vCloud Director (vCD) do not appear in the NSX Manager UI. vCloud Director reports no errors during the gateway creation process.

Environment

VMware NSX

VMware Cloud Director

Cause

This issue can occurs due to a misconfiguration in the vCloud Director UI.

In vCloud Director:

  • Provider Gateways map to Tier-0 (T0) Gateways in NSX.
  • Edge Gateways map to Tier-1 (T1) Gateways in NSX.

If a Tier-1 Gateway is incorrectly created under the Provider Gateways section, vCD will not trigger the correct API requests (e.g., a PATCH request) to create the corresponding Tier-1 object in NSX.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, the incorrectly mapped gateway must be removed and recreated in the appropriate section of the vCD UI.

  1. Remove the Incorrect Mapping:

    • Log in to the vCD.
    • Navigate to Resources > Cloud Resources > Provider Gateways.
    • Locate and delete the gateway entry that was intended to be a Tier-1 Gateway.
  2. Create the T1 Gateway via vCD:

    • Navigate to Resources > Cloud Resources > Edge Gateways.
  3. Verification:

    • Log in to the NSX Manager UI.
    • Navigate to Networking > Tier-1 Gateways.
    • Confirm that the new T1 gateway has been successfully created.
