Issue/Introduction

  • VMware Aria Operations displays the following active alert for a vSAN cluster: Statistics collection of vSAN Performance Service is not working correctly.
  • The vSAN Performance Service is enabled and operating correctly, and the overall vSAN cluster health is green.
  • Restarting the vsanmgmtd service on the ESXi hosts or toggling the performance service within the vCenter Server does not clear the active alert in Aria Operations.
  • There are other vSAN Clusters in the vCenter Server which do not have this alert.

Environment

vCenter 7.0U3
vSAN 7.0 U3
Aria Operations 8.18.6
TCP 4.0

Cause

  • The vCenter Server adapter instance within Aria Operations has hung or desynchronized during a vSAN metric polling cycle.
  • This causes the adapter to incorrectly retain an event-based availability alert, despite the underlying vSphere and vSAN environments being fully healthy.

Resolution

Restart the vCenter Server adapter instance in Aria Operations to drop any hung collection threads and initiate a fresh polling cycle:

  1. Log in to the VMware Aria Operations user interface.

  2. Navigate to Data Sources > Integrations (or Configurations > Inventory Management > Adapter Instances, depending on the specific Aria Operations version).

  3. Select the affected vCenter Server adapter instance.

  4. Click Stop from the toolbar.

  5. Wait for the collection status to report as stopped.

  6. Click Start from the toolbar to initialize a fresh collection cycle.

  7. Allow one full polling cycle (typically 5 minutes) for the metrics to synchronize and the stale alert to automatically cancel.
