Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to DX UIM 23.4 CU6, the nis_server probe stops updating its log file. The last entry typically recorded before the logging hangs is: DEBUG [pool-2-thread-1, com.ca.grouping.service.LocalGroupService] Not publishing the group infromation !

  • The probe may still show as "green" (Active) in Infrastructure Manager or Admin Console.
  • In some scenarios, dynamic groups in the Operator Console (OC) may stop updating automatically.
  • Restarting the nis_server probe temporarily restores logging and group processing, but the issue eventually recurs.

Environment

  • Version: 23.4 CU6
  • Probe: nis_server version 23.4.5 or 23.4.6

Cause

The issue is caused by a conflict between multiple logging providers (log4j-slf4j2-impl) within the nis_server probe. This conflict puts the logging service into a deadlock or "strange state," preventing further log writes and, in some cases, interfering with the group publishing thread.

Resolution

A permanent fix that resolves the logging provider conflict is included in DX UIM 23.4 CU8 (slated for release in May 2026). Customers experiencing this issue should plan to upgrade to CU8 or later.
