Issue/Introduction

How to disable alarming of "New Devices' list of devices on Trap Director SS.

We have Trap Director set up on the MLS servers. These are devices that Spectrum has not yet managed and, in our environment, these devices are recently online but haven't been put into production. As such, we do not want alarms to trigger on any of these devices.

How can we ensure new models discovered through trap based discovery don't create new alarms?

Users may experience premature or invalid alerting when new devices are automatically discovered and modeled in DX NetOps Spectrum via Trap-Based Discovery. This occurs when the devices are modeled in an active state before monitoring configurations or maintenance windows are fully established.

Environment

Release: All supported releases

Resolution

To prevent immediate alerting on newly discovered devices, configure the SpectroSERVER to place these models directly into Maintenance Mode during the discovery process.

Procedure

  1. Open the OneClick console and select the VNM model in the Navigation panel.
  2. In the Component Detail pane, expand the AutoDiscovery Control section.
  3. Locate and expand the Trap Based Continuous Discovery subview.
  4. Set the New Devices In Maintenance option to Yes (or Enabled).

Verification

  • Model Location: Newly created models will appear in the New Devices container under the Universe.
  • Model Status: The device icon should appear brown, indicating it is in Maintenance Mode.
  • Model Attribute: To confirm the discovery method, check the mdl_creat_athr (0x11026) attribute on the device; it should contain the value TrapDiscovery@<landscape_name>.
