When a user generates a Test Case from a User Story using the "Create with Details" action, the system automatically copies the parent story’s Title and Description into the new Test Case. While this is designed to give testers immediate access to requirements and acceptance criteria, some teams prefer a clean, blank template to avoid manual cleanup.
Rally SAAS
This behavior is an intentional part of Rally’s design to support Agile efficiency. By auto-populating these fields, the system ensures that the context of the requirement being tested is always visible to the tester without requiring them to toggle between browser tabs.
To create a linked Test Case that starts with a blank template, avoid using "Create with Details" and follow these steps instead:
Open the parent User Story that needs the Test Case.
Navigate to the Test Cases tab (or click the Test Case icon) located on the right-hand sidebar.
Click the + Add New button directly from within that specific Test Case collection list.
Outcome: Using the + Add New button from the collection view creates a new Test Case that is automatically linked to the parent User Story but provides a fresh, empty template without any copied text.
