Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter Server reports that the host is no responsive.
  • Restart the hostd service before the issue occurs by running the following command:
/etc/init.d/hostd restart

Environment

vCenter Server 8.x
ESXi 8.x

Cause

Restarting hostd and vpxa via the /etc/init.d/hostd restart command causes a temporary loss of connectivity between vCenter Server and the ESXi host.

Resolution

It is expected that the host will temporarily show as "Not Responding" while the /etc/init.d/hostd restart command is being executed.
