Issue/Introduction

  • During the backup window managed by Veeam Backup & Replication, the snapshot removal (commit/consolidation) phase on the VMs is extremely slow.
  • The VMs remain with snapshots attached for an extended period.
  • Performance degradation in terms of disk I/O and response times on VMs.
  • "Host CPU Usage" and "Host Memory Usage" alarms are triggered on the ESX host where the VBR (Veeam Backup & Replication) VM resides.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1.x
VMware ESX 7.0.3

Cause

This issue can occur if the ESXi host where the VBR VM is hosted is encountering a performance bottleneck.

Resolution

Investigate and resolve the performance issues on the ESX host. Refer to Troubleshooting ESX/ESXi virtual machine performance issues for guidance.
