When attempting to restore the SDDC Manager appliance from a file-based backup, the restore operation fails during the "ExtractSDDCManagerBackup" subtask.
The following error can be observed in the API response :
"errorCode" : "EXTRACT_SDDC_MGR_BACKUP_FAILED","message" : "SDDC Manager IP verification failed, Actual:XXX.XX.XX.XX - Expected:YYY.YY.YY.YY"
VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2.x
This issue occurs because the IP address of the newly deployed SDDC Manager appliance (Actual) does not match the original IP address recorded in the backup archive.
The SDDC Manager restore process includes a strict validation check to ensure the backup is being applied to the correct environment. Restoring a backup to an appliance configured with a different IP address will be blocked by this verification.
To resolve this issue, the newly deployed SDDC Manager appliance must be configured with the exact same IP address as the original appliance from which the backup was taken.
1. Delete or power off the currently deployed SDDC Manager appliance that has the incorrect IP address.
2. Redeploy a new SDDC Manager appliance using the original IP address (the "Expected" IP address indicated in the error message).
3. Re-initiate the file-based restore process on the newly deployed appliance.
