Unable to create placeholder virtual machine

Issue/Introduction

• The protection status displays "Placeholder VM not found" in VMware Live Site Recovery > Protection Group tab > Protection Group name > Virtual machine tab.
• When attempting to recreate the placeholder virtual machine, the protection status returns to "OK".
• However, upon logging into vSphere Client at the recovery site, the placeholder virtual machine has not been created.
• A virtual machine template with the same name already exists in the inventory, and its summary displays: "Managed by VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager Extension".
• Array-based replication is used in the environment.

Cause

This issue occurs because a placeholder virtual machine template with the same name as the protected virtual machine already exists at the recovery site. 
vSphere Client does not allow the creation of multiple objects with the identical name within the same inventory location.

Resolution

After verifying that the existing template is no longer in use, delete the placeholder virtual machine template from the recovery site.
