Issue/Introduction

We are using WLC Manager in Spectrum and we have noticed that sometimes Access Points (APs) are migrated from one WLC Controller to another.

This can be done for various reasons, I.E:  DHCP IP Address Update, or WLC Load Balancing, etc..

We would like to know if any network connections to upstream switches are kept during this migration or are they removed and must be rediscovered.

What is the expected behavior in this example?

Environment

Spectrum 25.4.x

WLC Manager

Resolution

The AP-to-Switch connection in Spectrum will remain intact when an AP migrates between WLC controllers. The AP's Spectrum model is identified by its MAC address and is reused (not destroyed and recreated) when it appears under a new WLC. Only the WLC containment relationship is updated to point to the new controller. The connection between the AP and the switch port is completely independent of the WLC controller association and is left untouched during migration.
