When you set the flag the Auto Start/Stop flag for Archive Manager from the Spectrum Control Panel under the Control menu this creates a file in $SPECROOT/tmp directory named .ddmpref-<hostname>. 

That file contains the preference UseArchMgr=<FALSE> or <TRUE>
