Issue/Introduction

This article provides additional information about database password encryption procedures in CA Plex 7.2.1 and CA Plex 7.3. These procedures allow for updating secured passwords in Java runtime properties files.

Environment

  • CA Plex 7.2.1: PTF 005 (Build 24.005) and above.
  • CA Plex 7.3: All builds (requires manual JAR file implementation).

Resolution

Required Components

  1. Cumulative Build for CA Plex 7.2.1 (PTF721.024.005): Contains the core changes for DB Password encryption (Solution Details).
  2. HIPER FIX - Plex r7.2.1 PTF Build 005: Contains the SecureJavaDBPWD.jar file required for the encryption tool to function (Solution Details).

Installation Sequence

To ensure the utility functions correctly, follow this order:

  1. Step 1: Apply the Cumulative Build (PTF721.024.005) first.
  2. Step 2: Apply the HIPER FIX to obtain the SecureJavaDBPWD.jar file.

Configuration and Documentation

Once the builds are applied, refer to the ReadME_JavaRuntimeEncryptDBPWD.docx file for instructions on configuring and running the DB Encryption.

File Locations for ReadME and JAR:

  • CA Plex 7.2.1:
    • C:\ProgramData\CA\Plex\7.2.1\ObJava\bin
    • C:\Users\All Users\CA\Plex\7.2.1\ObJava\bin
  • CA Plex 7.3:
    • C:\ProgramData\CA\Plex\7.3\ObJava\bin
    • C:\Users\All Users\CA\Plex\7.3\ObJava\bin

CA Plex 7.3 Workaround

As of April 2026, there are no published fixes or patches natively containing the SecureJavaDBPWD.jar for CA Plex 7.3.

  • Compatibility: The SecureJavaDBPWD.jar provided in the 7.2.1 HIPER FIX is fully compatible with CA Plex 7.3.
  • Action: Manually copy the SecureJavaDBPWD.jar from the 7.2.1 fix into the Plex 7.3 ObJava\bin directory listed above.
  • Future Updates: Future CA Plex 7.3 updates will include this JAR file natively.

Additional Information

Important Constraints

  • While this utility is designed for database passwords, it is not certified for the DefaultAS400.Password property.
