Issue/Introduction

When an administrator reconfigures the backup settings for NSX (such as updating an SSH fingerprint) from the SDDC Manager UI, the existing backup schedule on the NSX Manager is unexpectedly modified.

Specifically, the schedule resets to an "Hourly" interval, overriding previously configured schedules (e.g., "Weekly").

Environment

VMware SDDC Manager 4.5
VMware SDDC Manager 5.x

Cause

This is expected behavior by design.

The SDDC Manager UI lacks the fields to specify detailed backup schedules. When you reconfigure the backup settings, SDDC Manager applies the default NSX schedule (a 1-hour interval), overriding previously configured schedules.

Resolution

Because SDDC Manager cannot control the detailed backup schedule for NSX, you must manage the schedule directly from the NSX UI.

Whenever you reconfigure or update the NSX backup settings in SDDC Manager, you must perform the following post-configuration step:

  1. Log in directly to the NSX Manager UI.

  2. Navigate to the backup configuration settings.

  3. Manually change the backup schedule back to your intended frequency (e.g., Weekly).
