Getting error (0xc0000142) while running sm_notify.exe command

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to run the sm_notify.exe utility in a Smarts environment, the command fails to initialize and returns the following Windows application error:

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.

Environment

Smarts 24.3.13

Cause

This error is caused by a software defect specifically affecting the sm_notify.exe binary in Smarts version 24.3.13. The application fails to initialize correctly due to internal library incompatibilities introduced in this specific build.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, the Smarts environment must be upgraded to a version where the fix has been integrated.

Fixed Version: Smarts 25.4.5 or later.

 

NOTE: It is recommended upgrading Smarts (both Console and Domains) to the latest version. Additionally, upgrading will update the underlying third-party software, which resolves known vulnerabilities.
