Issue/Introduction

In the vSphere Client, when navigating to the vCenter inventory and selecting Monitor > Skyline Health, the following error is displayed:

Unable to query vSAN health information. Check vSphere Client logs for details.

Refreshing the web page does not resolve the issue.

Environment

vCenter Server 8.0 U3

Cause

The vCenter Skyline Health back-end service, VMware Analytics Service (vmware-analytics), is stopped.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) via SSH or the Appliance Management Interface (VAMI).
  2. Start the VMware Analytics Service.
    • From the command line, run: service-control --start vmware-analytics.
  3. Monitor the vCenter Skyline Health page to verify the error is resolved.
  4. If the service was not stopped manually or continues to stop unexpectedly, verify the /storage/log partition space utilization.
  5. Ensure there is sufficient free space for service logging to prevent the service from crashing.
