Cloning a Lab for Education Instructor Led Trainings

Issue/Introduction

If a student's lab is misconfigured or corrupted you can use the Clone vApp feature to copy a working lab state to another student. This is useful when a student's environment is not working correctly, enabling them to resume the lab from a working, known-good state.

Prerequisites:

• Instructor role assigned by an Administrator
• Active class session with enrolled students
• Access: Instructor Interface

Resolution

Warning: The steps outlined below are destructive. The destination lab will be permanently overwritten. Allow approximately 60 minutes and do not close the browser or end the session during this process.

Follow these steps to clone a student lab:

1. Log in to the Instructor Interface
   1. Open your browser and navigate to your organization’s VMware Lab Platform URL
      • Example: labplatform.broadcom.com/eduilt/instructor/{class_id}
   2. Enter your Organization name and instructor credentials, then click Continue.
2. Open Your Active Class
   1. From the Instructor Dashboard, locate your active class and click to open it.
   2. Review the student tile view and confirm the Occupied Seats count is correct.
3. Initiate Clone Lab from the Source Student’s Tile
   1. Locate the student whose lab is in a good state (Source vApp).
   2. Click the ⋮ vertical ellipsis menu on that student’s tile and select Clone Lab.
      
4. Select the Destination (Bad vApp) and Confirm
   1. In the Clone vApp dialog, search by Entitlement Key, Username, or Cloud vApp name.
   2. Select the radio button next to the destination student (the bad vApp), then click CLONE LAB and confirm.
5. Wait for Clone Completion (~60 Minutes)
   1. The destination student’s lab will shut down and the copy process will begin.
   2. Do not click Clone again or close the browser while the process is running.
   3. Once complete, the destination lab will reflect the Source vApp state and the student can resume their work.
