Issue/Introduction

A common question for administrators planning a new deployment or migration is whether the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) supports database engines other than Microsoft SQL Server, such as Oracle or MySQL.

Environment

ITMS 8.7.x, 8.8.x

Cause

The IT Management Suite (ITMS) and the underlying Symantec Management Platform (SMP) are designed to integrate specifically with Microsoft SQL Server. Currently, there is no support for Oracle, MySQL, or other non-Microsoft database platforms. This dependency exists because the SMP Server utilizes specific SQL Server features, Transact-SQL (T-SQL) syntax, and tight integration with Windows-based authentication and services. This behavior is by design.

Resolution

When planning your ITMS environment, ensure that you are using a supported version of Microsoft SQL Server. Using an unsupported database engine will prevent the Symantec Management Platform from installing or functioning.

Supported Database Platform

Not Supported (as ITMS 8.8.1 release and earlier)

  • Oracle Database
  • MySQL
  • PostgreSQL
  • Any non-Microsoft SQL database engine

Always verify supported SQL Server versions in the Support matrix for your ITMS version:
