Issue/Introduction

  • The ESXi host may experience PSOD while collecting support bundles from NSX.
  • The backtrace contains the following functions in it:

    EfiShared_IterateMemMapBegin
    EFI_VsiListMemoryMap
    VSIGetListInfoInt
    VSISyscall_GetListInfoWrapper
    UW64VMKSyscallUnpackVSI_GetList

  • /var/run/log/vmkernel.log on ESXi host shows the following log entries while dumping core:

    ESC[7m2026-03-24T13:52:03.705Z cpu71:2097709)WARNING: bnxtnet: bnxtnet_mempool_alloc:1062: [bnxtnet : ########] Failed to map 1 pages (bad0001)ESC[0m

  • The ESXi host has VMs with vmxnet3 adapter registered on it at the time of this issue.

Environment

  • VMware NSX
  • VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

This is caused by XMap fragmentation/exhaustion for the VMXNet3 device.

Resolution

Refer to KB Virtual machine power-on task fails with an error "Failed to instantiate VMM bootstrap blob: Failure"
