Issue/Introduction

Steps to identify Virtual Machines, templates, VMkernel adapters, or other objects configured to a Distributed Port Group before attempting deletion in the vSphere Client.

Environment

VMware ESXi 8.x

Resolution

To ensure a Distributed Port Group can be deleted without errors, verify that no objects retain a configuration binding using the following steps:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.

  2. Navigate to [Networking] view.

  3. Expand the <Distributed Switch> and select the <Distributed Port Group> you intend to delete.

  4. Click the [Ports] tab.

  5. Check the [Connectee] column.
The column should not list any Virtual Machines, VMkernel adapters, or Templates.

Note:
If any objects are still listed, you must reassign their network settings to a different port group or remove the adapter before the port group can be deleted.
