Issue/Introduction

  • An NSX Edge cluster is deployed in a VCF 9.0 or 9.0.1 environment.
  • There is a requirement to update or change the Edge TEP VLAN ID after the initial deployment.
  • Attempting to modify the TEP VLAN via the NSX UI or Uplink Profile does not successfully update the Edge nodes as expected.

Environment

VCF NSX 9.0.x

Cause

In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) versions 9.0 and 9.0.1, the NSX Edge TEP VLAN configuration is fixed at the time of deployment. The current architecture does not support post-deployment modification of the TEP VLAN through standard configuration edits.

Resolution

Currently, the only supported method to change the NSX Edge TEP VLAN in VCF 9.0 and 9.0.1 is to redeploy the Edge cluster with the new VLAN requirements.

Redeployment Steps:

  1. Plan Downtime: Redeploying the Edge cluster will cause a temporary interruption to North-South traffic and overlay connectivity.
  2. Delete Existing Edge Cluster: Remove the current Edge cluster and its member nodes from the NSX inventory.
  3. Create New Edge Cluster: Deploy a new Edge cluster, ensuring the correct TEP VLAN is specified during the deployment wizard.

Additional Information

A native option to modify the Edge TEP VLAN post-deployment is planned for an upcoming major release of VMware Cloud Foundation. Refer to the product release notes for future updates regarding this functionality.
