VMware vSphere ESXi

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • Application Latency: Internal processing of middleware and database integration consistently experience delays of several hundred milliseconds (e.g., around 0.2 seconds).
  • Internal Host Communication Latency: Transferring large amounts of data between VMs within the same ESXi host (via vSwitch loopback) (e.g., 10GB SCP transfer) results in significantly longer processing times compared to communication between different hosts.

Environment

ESXi

Cause

In some cases, the problem may be caused by the CPU power saving feature "C1E (Enhanced Halt State)" being enabled in the BIOS/UEFI settings of the physical server (hardware).

Resolution

Switch the target ESXi host into maintenance mode, restart the physical server, and change the BIOS/UEFI settings.

For specific change procedures, please consult your hardware vendor.
