On a VMware Data Services Manager (DSM) appliance, the /data partition reaches 100% capacity, causing services to crash or the UI to return errors (e.g., Nginx 503).
After manually deleting files from the appliance to free up space, the following critical alerts appear in the DSM Management UI:
/data/bundles/dsm-data-plane/2.2.1/2.2.1-image-bundle-2.2.1.20250302T2041Z.82ab5d5.zip: no such file or directory.Data plane node OVA status - failed reading OVA from the provided path: error opening zip file: open /data/bundles/dsm-data-plane/2.2.1/2.2.1-image-bundle-2.2.1.20250302T2041Z.82ab5d5.zip: no such file or directory - photon-5-v1.30.8 --- vmware.1.dsm.2
Data plane bundle status - failed to process manifest file in bundle: error opening zip file: open /data/bundles/dsm-data-plane/2.2.1/2.2.1-image-bundle-2.2.1.20250302T2041Z.82ab5d5.zip: no such file or directory - v2.2.1
VMware Data Services Manager 2.2.1
The issue is caused by the manual deletion of the image bundle zip file located in /data/bundles/dsm-data-plane/. This file contains the critical images required for creating and provisioning databases. When this file is missing, the DSM provider cannot read the necessary OVA templates, leading to service failures and UI warnings.
To resolve this issue, the missing image bundle must be manually restored to the appliance.
Download the Bundle: Log in to the Broadcom Support Portal and download the DSM Update Bundle for the specific version currently running (e.g., 2.2.1).
Extract the File: Extract the downloaded dsm_update_bundle.zip and navigate to the dsm-data-plane folder.
Locate the Image Bundle: Identify the missing file, such as 2.2.1-image-bundle-2.2.1.20250302T2041Z.82ab5d5.zip.
Upload to Appliance: Use WinSCP, FTP, or SCP to upload the file back to the DSM appliance at the following path: /data/bundles/dsm-data-plane/[version]/.
Set Permissions: Log in to the DSM appliance via SSH and run the following command to set the correct permissions (replace the filename as needed): chmod 644 2.2.1-image-bundle-2.2.1.20250302T2041Z.82ab5d5.zip
Verification: Wait a few minutes for the DSM UI to refresh. The critical warnings should clear, and database provisioning should succeed.
