Issue/Introduction

During maintenance, attempts to failover to an active/standby High Availability (HA) Edge fail. The following error is observed in the UI Runtime Details or logs:

The tier1 gateway <UUID> failover from Active to Down, service-router <UUID>. View Runtime Details (Reason: DP Disconnected)

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

The standby Edge node was migrated via vMotion simultaneously with the active Edge node, and datapath (DP) connectivity was not established or verified on the new host prior to initiating the failover.

Resolution

  • Place the standby Edge node into maintenance mode.

  • Migrate the standby Edge VM to the new ESXi host.

  • Remove the standby Edge node from maintenance mode.

  • Verify HA and datapath connectivity between the Edge nodes.

  • Place the active Edge node into maintenance mode and migrate it to the new ESXi host.

  • Retry the Tier-1 failover operation.
