Following the initial deployment and configuration of an Aria Operations or VCF Operations environment, administrators may need to update the display name of a vCenter Server adapter instance.
This guide provides the necessary workflows to safely adjust the adapter name for organizational clarity, alignment with infrastructure updates, or inventory management purposes.
Aria Operations 8.18.x
VCF Operations 9.x
Depending on how the vCenter Server was added to Aria Operations/VCF Operations, use one of the following methods to rename the vCenter Server adapter display name.
Method 1: Standard Adapter Rename Use this procedure if the vCenter Server adapter was added directly.
Navigate to Data Sources > Integrations.
Select the Accounts tab.
Locate the target vCenter Server adapter instance.
Click the vertical ellipsis (three dots) next to the adapter and select Edit.
In the Name field, remove the existing name and enter the new display name.
Click Save.
Method 2: Inventory Management Rename Use this procedure if the vCenter Server was added via a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) adapter instance, or if the standard rename option is restricted in the Integrations UI.
Navigate to Administration > Configuration > Inventory Management.
Search for the vCenter Server using its current display name.
Select the target vCenter Server object. Verify that both the Object Type and Adapter Type are listed as vCenter to ensure the correct object is selected.
Click the Edit ✏️ option from the Inventory Toolbar options located on the Object tab.
Modify the display name as required.
Click Save to confirm and apply the changes.
