Issue/Introduction

  • After resolving an initial validation error, running the validation again may result in a different error being output the second time.
  • In the example below, the first attempt displays the error "Destination Data Storage is not specified!", while the second attempt displays the error "External device(s): CD/DVD drive 1 detected on <VM_name>. Please unmount the ISOs to proceed."

    First attempt:
One or more VMs have errors, cannot proceed with migration.
You may retry validation after fixing the issues.
Some Migrations can not be started!

    Second attempt:

One or more VMs have errors, cannot proceed with migration.
You may retry validation after fixing the issues.

Environment

VMware HCX

Cause

The first error is output when mandatory fields are not specified, in accordance with the behavior described in KB#415617. Unless this initial validation is passed, the subsequent detailed validations will not be executed.

Resolution

Please continue to resolve the reported issues and re-run the validation until all validation errors are cleared.
