Setting up monitoring and notifications using Aria Operations for the HCX Manager, Service Mesh, Network Extension, and Hybrid Interconnect services.
Additionally, setting up alerts based on query for transient "High Churn" application events (such as rapidly repeating task failures or state flapping) occurring in the HCX app.log when forwarded to Aria Operations.
VMware HCX 4.11.3
VMware Aria Operations 8.18
The HCX Management Pack alert definitions are not enabled by default, and transient application-level high churn events require explicit log-to-alert integration to be monitored
Log in to the Aria Operations UI and navigate to Administration > Solutions > Other Accounts.
Verify the HCX Adapter instance is configured and the status is "Collecting".
Navigate to Configure > Alerts > Alert Definitions and filter by "Adapter Type: HCX Adapter".
Enable the following Critical out-of-the-box alert definitions:
All tunnels on Hybrid Interconnect Service are down
High Throughput Network Extension Tunnel is down
Bulk Migration Service Status is Down
HCX system is deactivated
Enable the following Warning out-of-the-box alert definitions:
Hybrid Interconnect Service Encryption Tunnel is degraded
To monitor high churn events or any other event signatures in HCX manager, configure syslog forwarding on the HCX appliance to send logs, specifically app.log, to Aria Operations for Logs.
In Aria Operations for Logs, construct a query to match the specific high churn log signature (or any other signatures that are needed to be monitored)
Select Create Alert from Query and configure it to send notifications directly to Aria Operations. (here email notifications can also be setup from Aria Operations)
