Issue/Introduction

  • VCF greenfield deployment fails on the task 'Migrate VMs to Management port group' with the message:

Error while migrating the VMs from port group <network-id> to <dvportgroup-id>

  • The vCenter Server virtual machine has been reconfigured from default VM Network to the VM Management network portgroup but lost accessing.
  • The VM Management network is configured with a VLAN ID on the Distributed Switch, but the physical switch trunk port connected to the uplink does not allow this VLAN.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0

Cause

The physical switch of the uplink is in trunk but does not allow the VLAN traffic of VM Management network. This will block the accessing of vCenter Server after migrate its network portgroup from vSwitch0 to the VDS.

Resolution

To fix the issue,

  • If there is no VLAN ID for VM Management network, redesign the network topology to assign a VLAN for it.
  • If there is VLAN ID for VM Management network already, configure the physical switch of uplink to allow the VLAN traffic.
