Nessus scan report indicates VMware Tools is not the latest available version

Issue/Introduction

• Navigating to vCenter UI > Hosts and Clusters > VM > Updates Tab > after performing a "Check Status" > it says the VM is "Up to Date" on VMware Tools.
  
  
  
  
• The current VMware Tools version match the ESXi host as per the VM Tools mapping. (VMware version-mapping file)
• Nessus scan reports that VMware Tools is not on the latest available version

Environment

• vCenter Server
• vSphere ESXi

Cause

Nessus scans flag VMware Tools as out of compliance or not up to date if they do not match the latest available version known to Tenable's database, even if the VM's VMware Tools match the version currently provided by the underlying ESXi host.

Resolution

To satisfy Nessus' scan, update the VMware Tools version on the ESXi host. Refer to KB Update the VMware Tools version in the ESXi host for various methods to do so.
