Issue/Introduction

When creating a new Report Builder data source for an Oracle database, the screen shows a field for "Service Name".

However when you use Service Name in that field you receive an error message

Test failed. [ Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory Listener refused the connection with the following error ORA 12505 TNS listener does not currently know of SID given in connection descriptor ]

If you type in the SID instead of the Service Name, the connection test succeeds.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. In the CA Service Catalog UI, navigate to Administration -> Report Builder
  2. Click the "Create Data Object" button
  3. Click the "Query Builder" button
  4. Click the "Add Data Source" button
  5. Fill in the details for the new data source, selecting "Oracle" as the type of database, and using the TNS Service Name in the field labelled "Service Name"
  6. Click the "Test button and see the error:

Test failed. [ Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory Listener refused the connection with the following error ORA 12505 TNS listener does not currently know of SID given in connection descriptor ]
  7. Click OK.  In the "Service Name" field, change the value to be the SID
  8. Click "Test" and see the "success" message

    Test successful.

Environment

Service Catalog v17.4.0 - v17.4.5

Cause

The field on the dialog is mislabelled and should say "SID" instead of "Service Name".

Resolution

This will be fixed in SDM v17.4.6 and in SDM 17.5.
