Issue/Introduction

Aria Operations for Logs, scheduled reports containing non-ASCII characters (e.g., Chinese) in the report name exhibit the following behavior:

  • Email Attachments: The filename of the report attachment appears garbled or contains corrupted characters.
  • Email Body/Subject: The title of the email and the actual content within the report remain intact and legible.
  • Manual Downloads: Reports downloaded directly from the Aria Operations for Logs UI display the correct filename.

Environment

Aria Operations for Logs 8.18.4

Cause

Aria Operations for Logs handles character encoding during the automated email dispatch process results in the corruption of non-ASCII strings in attachment headers.

Resolution

This is a known issue. The development team is currently working on a formal fix to be included in a future release. Please monitor the VMware Aria Operations for Logs Release Notes for the official resolution.

Workaround:

To ensure filenames are displayed correctly in the interim, use only ASCII characters (standard English alphanumeric characters) when naming scheduled reports.

  1. Navigate to Visualize > Reports.
  2. Locate the affected report template.
  3. Rename the report using ASCII characters.
  4. Save and trigger the schedule to verify the attachment filename in the receiving inbox.
