Issue/Introduction

A vMotion operation fails because the destination network is not available. In this scenario, the vSphere Distributed Switch (vDS) is sourced from NSX rather than vSphere. Further investigation reveals that NSX services are down and the NSX managers are unreachable.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 5.2
VMware NSX

Cause

An underlying vSAN storage fault caused the NSX managers to become unresponsive. Stable storage is required for NSX and vSphere to operate correctly; without it, the NSX-backed networks become unavailable, leading to vMotion failures.

Resolution

  • Investigate and resolve the underlying vSAN storage issue to restore stable storage to the environment.

  • Once vSAN is healthy, verify that the NSX managers power back on and become reachable.

  • Confirm that the NSX services are running and the destination network is available in vSphere.

  • Retry the vMotion operation. (Note: If the environment is beyond recovery, redeploying the affected domain may be necessary to start fresh).
