When configuring a Bar/Column chart with a single Metric and Periods = False, the Legend formatting options correctly hide. However, if a Breakdown Dimension is added, the chart automatically generates a legend, but the Legend dropdown setting remains hidden in the Chart Properties. This prevents the user from formatting or hiding the newly generated legend.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a Bar Chart widget and open the Chart Properties panel.
2. On the Setup tab, ensure the Periods toggle is turned off.
3. Configure the chart with one Dimension and one Metric.
4. Switch to the Format tab and verify the Legend dropdown setting is hidden. (This is expected).
5. Return to the Setup tab and select a Breakdown Dimension.
6. Switch back to the Format tab.
Expected Result: The Legend setting should reappear in the Format tab because the Breakdown Dimension splits the metric into multiple series, requiring a legend.
Actual Result: The Legend setting remains hidden. The chart displays the legend, but the user is completely locked out of making any formatting changes to it (for example changing position or setting to None).
Workaround:
1. On the Setup tab, temporarily remove the Breakdown Dimension.
2. Add a temporary second Metric (this forces the Legend menu to appear).
3. Switch to the Format tab and change the Legend setting to the desired position.
4. Switch back to Setup, delete the temporary second Metric, and re-add the Breakdown Dimension.
This functionality is available in the Clarity 16.4.2 release, currently targeted around May.
