VMware NSX VMware SDDC Manager

Issue/Introduction

This article provides a quick guide for recovering or identifying NSX credentials when direct access to NSX is unavailable, but you still retain management access to the Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) UI.
By utilizing the built-in Developer Center, administrators can easily fetch the current passwords for the core NSX accounts (admin, root, and audit).

Environment

VMware NSX

VMware SDDC Manager

Resolution

To fetch the NSX credentials from the SDDC console, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the SDDC UI using your administrator account.

  2. Navigate to the Developer Center and select the API Explorer tab.

  3. Locate the Credentials API category and expand it.

  4. Expand the GET method section designed for fetching credentials.

  5. Scroll to the Try it Out section and click the Execute button.

  6. Retrieve the Credentials: A JSON file will be generated and downloaded (or displayed in the response body). Open this JSON file to view the current credentials and passwords for the admin, root, and audit users.
