Install a Software Update on Aria Operations 8.18

Issue/Introduction

This KB will explain the manual installation steps of a software update or patch for VMware Aria Operations 8.18 using the Administrator interface.

 

Prerequisites:

• Snapshots: Take snapshots of each VMware Aria Operations node before applying any update
• Binaries: Download the appropriate .PAK file from the Broadcom Support Portal

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Resolution

1. Log in to the Primary node's Administrator interface at https://<primary-node-FQDN-or-IP>/admin 
2. Click Software Update in the left panel.
3. Click Install a Software Update in the main panel.
4. Follow the wizard to locate and upload the .PAK file.
5. Note: If prompted, you may select "Install the PAK file even if it is already installed" 
6. Wait for the update to complete. The interface will log you out during this process.
7. Log back into the Administrator interface. The cluster will typically go online automatically.
8. Validation: Verify that the message "Update completed successfully" appears in the main panel and confirm the version in Help > About 

Additional Information

• If the cluster status changes to Offline during installation, manually take the cluster offline in the Admin UI and click Finish Installation to resume 
• A blank screen when selecting "Install a Software Update" may indicate an expired cluster certificate Aria Operations blank screen.
