Issue/Introduction

  • The same IP address is assigned to two different VMs residing in separate Organization Virtual Data Centers (Org VDC).
  • When a user attempts to connect to a specific VM, the user instead logs into an incorrect VM located in a different Org VDC.
  • The VMs with the same IP are part of two different vApp: one with isolated network and the other one with direct network.
  • Both vApp network use identical Gateway CIDR and static IP ranges on the same subnet.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

The conflict is caused by the use of identical Gateway CIDR and static IP ranges on the same subnet across different Org VDC.

While one vApp network remains isolated (accessible only from within that specific network), the other is a direct network connected to an external network. Because the user is accessing the environment from an external position, the routing directs them to the VM on the external network rather than the intended isolated one.

Resolution

To resolve this conflict and ensure proper connectivity, you must modify the network configuration to eliminate subnet overlap.
