Unable to launch workstation due to failure in kernel module compilation.

Issue/Introduction

Launching Workstation on RHEL 9.4 failed due to kernel module compilation error. 

 

Environment

VMware Workstation 17.6.2

Cause

Launching workstation will fails if the host operating system kernel version is incompatible with the Workstation. 

Resolution

• Identify the kernel version executing the command on host operating system(RHEL 9.4) 
  uname -r
• Compare the kernel version with the supported host operating systems release document: 
  Supported host operating systems for Workstation Player 16.x, 17.x,25H2 and VMware Workstation Pro 16.x, 17.x, 25H2
• Supported host operating system version and kernel release information is available for comparison. 
• If the kernel version found to be not supported, deploy host operating system with the supported version of kernel. 
• Launching Workstation will work on supported releases of host operating system.
