Issue/Introduction

I impersonate a user how do the rights work?   Do I as the impersonator inherit the rights of the user I impersonate? Or, do I still maintain my rights for example as Admin?

Resolution

User impersonation allows administrators or support staff to act as another user to troubleshoot or view the application exactly as they do, without needing their password. The impersonator typically inherits the functional rights, access rights (instance, OBS), and data security of the user being impersonated.

Key Aspects of Impersonation Rights:
  • Access Rights: The impersonator can see all content, projects, and data visible to the target user.
  • Actions: Depending on the configuration, the impersonator can take actions (e.g., submitting timesheets, updating tasks) on the user's behalf.
  • Restrictions: Generally, non-platform admins cannot impersonate platform admins to prevent privilege escalation.
  • Visibility: Impersonation events are typically logged and monitored in the system log for auditing.
