Issue/Introduction

When utilizing the "Delete powered off VMs" Action configuration within Automation Central Reclaim job, vCenter templates are identified as targets for reclamation.

Environment

VMware Aria operations 8.x

Cause

Aria Operations identifies VM templates as virtual machines with a Power State of "Powered Off," causing them to meet the default criteria for automated deletion policies targeting powered-off VMs.

Resolution

To prevent the deletion of VM templates, you must explicitly exclude templates using a property filter in the Automation Central job configuration:

  1. Navigate to Automation Central and create or edit a Reclaim job.

  2. Under Action Configuration, select Delete powered off VMs.
  3. In the Filter Criteria section, add a new filter.

  4. Define the filter using the following parameters:

    • Object Type: Virtual Machine

    • Property: Summary|Configuration|VM Template

    • Operator: is not true

  5. Review the scope to to verify that VM templates are no longer listed in the target set.

  6. Save the job configuration.
