Installing TPX™ Session Management 5.5 involves preparation, the base installation using
either z/OSMF or SMP/E JCL, and manual configuration of the runtime environment.
Critical Installation Warnings
Logon Mode Table: Do not reuse your logon mode table from a previous release.
Unlike earlier versions, TPX 5.5 provides only one logon mode table (TPXLGMOD) Install the New Release.
SMP/E Environment: When installing into an existing SMP/E environment, the new installation deletes
previous releases in that environment. It is recommended to install into a new CSI Prepare for Installation.
Step 1: Prepare for Installation
Before beginning, ensure your team includes a systems programmer, security administrator,
and storage administrator. Review the following:
Hardware & Software Requirements:
Verify compatibility with your z/OS environment Address Software Requirements.
FMIDs: Review Functional Modification Identifiers to identify which language panels
(English, French, German, etc.) to install Installation Checklist.
z/OSMF/USS: If using z/OSMF for installation, verify the specific security and file system
requirements for UNIX System Services Address UNIX System Services Requirements.
Step 2: Base Installation
You can install the product using one of two methods:
a) z/OSMF: Use the z/OSMF Software Management task to deploy the product.
b) SMP/E JCL: Use standard SMP/E JCL to create the product environment, target libraries,
and distribution libraries Install Products Using SMP/E JCL.
Maintenance: Immediately following the base install, download and apply the latest maintenance and
SMP/E HOLDDATA to ensure the system is current Install Maintenance.
Step 3: Configuration Tasks
Configuration can be automated via z/OSMF workflows or performed manually. Manual steps include:
APF Authorization: You must APF-authorize the product load library and any user load libraries
APF-Authorize the Load Libraries.
VTAM Node Definition: Define TPX as a major node and configure virtual terminals and printers as minor nodes.
VSAM Allocation: Allocate and initialize the VSAM files required for product functionality
Allocate and Initialize the VSAM Files.
Logon Mode Table: Copy the TPXLGMOD table to SYS1.VTAMLIB to define session parameters for virtual terminals.
License Keys: Add your product license key to CAIRIM to ensure proper product initialization.
Step 4: Security and Verification
ESM Configuration: Add TPXADMIN userid to Your External Security Manager. (RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret)
Startup: Copy the customized TPX startup procedure to your runtime PROCLIB and start the address space.
Verification: Confirm access by logging into the TPX menu panels Verify Your Installation.
